Caros audiophiles, this week I have chosen a recent song by an Irish/Canadian band called Vega4. I heard Life is Beautiful during one of my two favourite films so far this year, My Sister's Keeper. The film focuses on two sisters, the youngest specifically born to provide bone marrow and matching organs for her sick older sister. Now aged 10, the younger sister decides to stop being a donor in order to live her own life, and so she takes her parents to court. It is deliberately very sentimental but very moving and very well acted especially by the two sisters.
The song's lyrics can be understood in the context of the ups and downs of our personal relationships but also as a commentary on our planet and the way we abuse our environment. The title says everything; but how often we forget that we live only one life, we take people and the things around for granted, in our busy lives we forget to look up and around us, to take a moment to breathe and notice the things around us; maybe sometimes we see something on the usual route to work which we have never noticed before even though it has always been there...sometimes it is good to choose a different route for a day just to break out of our habits and to perceive something new...
And so I propose two videos, one personal and one environmental. In any case, the song is great!
Life is beautiful
We love until we die
When you run into my arms,
We steal a perfect moment.
Let the monsters see you smile,
Let them see you smiling.
Do I hold you too tightly?
When will the hurt kick in?
Life is beautiful, but it's complicated.
We barely make it.
We don't need to understand,
There are miracles, miracles.
Yeah, life is beautiful.
Our hearts, they beat and break.
When you run away from harm,
Will you run back into my arms,
Like you did when you were young?
Will you come back to me?
I will hold you tightly
When the hurting kicks in.
Life is beautiful, but it's complicated,
We barely make it.
We don't need to understand,
There are miracles, miracles.
Stand where you are.
We let all these moments pass us by.
It's amazing where I'm standing,
There's a lot that we can give.
This is ours just for the moment,
There's a lot that we can give.
A proxima,
po
